Why are we moving to South Dakota, how many times have we heard this? 🙂 Well, have you seen South Dakota? It’s beautiful there! Seriously, we looked at several states to retire to and our main criteria was it had to be a state with no state income tax.
States with no income tax:
- Alaska
- Florida
- Nevada
- South Dakota
- Texas
- Washington
- Wyoming
States with nearly no income tax:
- Tennessee
- New Hampshire
As you know we currently live in a state with no state income tax but both of us have this calling to be out west in a more open, rural area. Also, the heat and humidity in the summer here in Florida is sometimes unbearable. We looked at some land in Texas but again, the heat in the summer is not something we were too crazy about. On a whim, we emailed South Dakota’s tourism office and they sent a very detailed vacation/relocation packet. So we planned a vacation there a couple of years ago to visit the Black Hills area and were completely sold on the idea of making that part of South Dakota our retirement destination. Several trips later we closed on what we are calling “Hoten Holler”, some land just south of Custer. The picture at the top of this page is part of Hoten Holler!

Dave and Jen, as you can figure, I do not spend much time on the iPad Or the mini mac we bought months ago. Glad to hear that Dave is doing well from whatever and sorry about your Sabrina. The neighbors here have dogs to help protect their chicks. Don’t know if it works. But sounds like you are glad you made the move.
look forward to your blog and glad to know you are happy
